Clinical Interest
Dr. Gorgone is a clinician-educator in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. He is interested in caring for patients with a wide variety of pulmonary and critical illnesses, but has a particular interest in caring for patients with hematologic malignancies and in the diagnosis of patients with lung cancer. He is the director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at UPMC Shadyside.
Educational Interest
Dr. Gorgone's main academic focus is the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. He is the director of the medical ICU and pulmonary medical student electives at Shadyside, and co-directs the pulmonary physiology course for the second year medical students at University of Pittsburgh. He is particularly interested in point of care ultrasound and is certified in Critical Care Echocardiography (Diplomate status, National Board of Echocardiography). He is a section editor for the Echocardiography section for ATS Quick hits.
