Clinical Interest
Dr. Reitschuler-Cross' clinical work involves treating patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses. She aims to treat the entirety of patients' needs, including the many medical, psychological, and social aspects that their illnesses affect. She also strives to be an advocate for her patients and their families in these times of increasing medical and systematic complexity. The focus of her work is patients with cancer. In addition to her general inpatient palliative care service, she has an outpatient palliative care clinic at the Hillman Cancer Center.
Educational Interest
Dr. Reitschuler-Cross completed a fellowship in medical education and incorporates these teaching skills working with fellows, residents, and medical students during daily rounds. In its essence, palliative care is present in all fields of medical practice, and for this reason, she believes that it is important for medical trainees to have exposure to palliative care skills early in their education. Dr. Reitschuler-Cross is the Director of the palliative care elective for University of Pittsburgh medical students, which allows her to instruct future physicians.

In addition, Dr. Reitschuler-Cross focuses on teaching communication skills to all levels of practicing physicians. Along with colleagues in the divisions of palliative care and cardiology, she helped to develop CardioTalk, an intensive two-day communication training session for cardiologists.
