Research Interest
Dr. Simonson’s research interests are focused on medical education, specifically curriculum development and assessment, the use of social media in medical education, and evaluation of quality improvement efforts.

Clinical Interest
Dr. Simonson is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and hospitalist in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Section of Hospital Medicine. He attended medical school at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, earning the Sokoloff Award for Excellence in Clinical and Diagnostic Skills, before completing his residency at UPMC. Dr. Simonson joined the University of Pittsburgh in 2019 and practices hospital medicine on both direct-care and teaching services at UPMC. His interests include multidisciplinary care, medical documentation, and perioperative medicine.
Educational Interest
In addition to his role as a hospitalist and clinician educator in the Section of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Simonson is actively involved in teaching at both the medical student and resident level. He is the course director of the Internal Medicine Acting Internship and the co-director for the IM Track of the Residency Bootcamp course. He also directs the Perioperative Medication Management curriculum and Evidence Based Medicine curriculum for internal medicine residents. He is also the co-creator of @MedEdPGH, an educational Twitter account used for promoting clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based medicine.
