Research Interest
Dr. Thiel's research interests center on improving health care value through physician practices and high-value care medical education. He is also interested in the development and evaluation of addiction medicine curricula.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Thiel provides medical care to adults in both the hospital inpatient and ambulatory clinic settings. He practices both at UPMC Montefiore and the General Internal Medicine South Clinic in West Mifflin. He also treats patients with substance use disorders at the Center for Opioid Recovery.
Educational Interest
Dr. Thiel is interested both in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Areas of interest include: development of medical interviewing/communication skills, physical examination skills, and medical decision making. He is also interested in training residents to evaluate and treat substance use disorders.
