Research Interest
Dr. Merriam’s primary research interests center around the development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula within the domain of physician leadership and women’s health. Dr. Merriam has disseminated scholarly work which represents a variety of medical education research methods, curricular and program evaluations, curricular publication, review articles, and policy statements among others. Dr. Merriam has been nationally recognized for her scholarship, which was competitively selected as a Hamolsky Finalist during the 2020 SGIM annual conference.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Merriam has worked as a WH attending physician since 2017. In this capacity, she provides both inpatient and outpatient care for Veterans within the mid-Atlantic region. Within her outpatient practice, Dr. Merriam provides direct primary care to predominately, but not exclusively, women Veterans and also precepts the outpatient resident clinic. She also provides inpatient care to hospitalized Veterans in conjunction with housestaff teams. More recently, she was invited to sit as the co-chair of the VAPHS Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, which serves a mission of providing uniform, consistent, and equitable drug therapy across the region VAPHS serves.
Educational Interest
Dr. Merriam has presented nationally and published work in a variety of different research content areas, including women's health, physician leadership, and medical education research such as curriculum development and evaluation. In addition, she continues to actively mentor residents and fellows in their own research and education projects.
