Research Interest
Dr. Ullal's basic science research was directed toward understanding the mechanisms of microvascular dysfunction in diabetic neuropathy and microvascular complication in diabetes. He examined the effects of nitric oxide and cyclic GMP on microvascular flow in diabetes. As the clinical director of diabetes inpatient services at UPMC, he has turned his attention to researching electronic management of diabetes in the hospital and various related inpatient diabetes programs.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Ullal's clinical interest is inpatient endocrinology and diabetes management. He is ECNU certified in thyroid ultrasonography and manages patients with complex thyroid conditions, performs thyroid ultrasounds and ultrasound guided biopsies. I am also certified in clinical bone densitometry and see patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disease.
Educational Interest
Dr. Ullal is involved in resident and Endocrinology fellow lectures and didactic education. He also participates in nursing education.
