Research Interest
My research interests involve clinical cardiology and electrophysiology. I participate in a variety of clinical studies examining the role of new pharmacologic agents, devices or therapies in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Clinical Interest
My clinical interests revolve around the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. I perform the full range of inpatient and ambulatory consultation services using the techniques of ambulatory monitoring, tilt table testing and invasive electrophysiology studies (when necessary) to arrive at a diagnosis. Based on these findings, the patient and I develop a treatment plan that may involve reassurance, lifestyle changes, pharmacologic therapy, a cardiac implantable electrical device (pacemaker or defibrillator) or ablation of the arrhythmogenic focus.
Educational Interest
My educational interests involve teaching house staff key concepts in cardiology and electrophysiology while providing them with a framework to utilize their knowledge and skills to arrive at a diagnosis. I am actively involved with teaching medical students at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as well as resident physicians and cardiology fellow’s at several hospitals within the UPMC healthcare system. I also teach at several national courses each year helping to prepare physician’s for the cardiology portion of their certification and recertification examinations.
