Research Interest
Vaccine Decision Making: One of Dr. Robertson’s area of interest continues is decision-making, particularly related to cancer prevention and early detection, including preventative vaccines.
Knowledge and Health Behaviors Related to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection: Dr. Robertson continues to explore the growing problem of HPV infection in our community. Particular interest includes; assessment of individuals’ of lower SES and their knowledge of HPV infection, specifically methods of transmission, the potential for illness/disease, and prevention of HPV through behavior and vaccination. Health Equity and Cancer Care: Dr. Robertson is the site PI for the RCT for “Accountability for Cancer Care through Undoing Racism and Equity (ACCURE)”. Social stressors, air pollution, and cancer: Dr. Robertson with a multidisciplinary team has recently completed a pilot study using a mixed qualitative and geostatistical approach for characterizing psychosocial stressors, and their spatial relationships with air pollution, across the city of Pittsburgh, and to explore possible relationships with other exposures and cancer incidence. Further research is in the process of being developed currently.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Robertson has a strong interest and expertise in working with underserved communities/populations. This includes racial and ethnic minority populations, the LGBTQIA community, the un/underinsured and individuals of low literacy. She enjoys providing clinical -related activities in addition, to her own research with these groups. The focus of her efforts is to evaluate preventative cancer screening and related behaviors in individuals in a variety of community based settings and clinics throughout the UPMC CancerCenter catchment area. She and her team conducts screenings where appropriate, provides follow up, identifies barriers to care and provides navigation services when necessary.
