Research Interest
My research focuses on functional genomics and systems biology studies of common chronic illnesses, affecting brain, neurobehavior, and metabolism, diseases caused by stress or infections with viral pathogens (SIV/HIV). Many of chronic conditions manifest in chronic inflammation and accelerated aging. I am using a combination of genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic approaches to unravel mechanisms of such aging- and inflammation-related phenotypes and identify targets for therapy. I am also interested in natural protective mechanisms that natural hosts have developed during a long-term coevolution with the pathogens.
