Research Interest
As the Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology, Dr. Martin is most interested in quality improvement research in infection prevention and finding ways to decrease the spread of hospital acquired pathogens and resistant organisms. She is very interested in how we use personal protective equipment and isolation to decrease the spread of infections, while trying to maintain high quality patient care. Most of her research focuses on contact precautions and hospital adverse events. She is also interested in C. diff, CAUTI, and antimicrobial stewardship.
Clinical Interest
As the Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology, Dr. Martin works with the UPMC Infection Prevention team to decrease the spread of hospital acquired infections, including, CLABSI, CAUTI, C. diff, MRSA, VRE, surgical site infections, and other device associate infections. She is also a member of the Infectious Diseases Department and attends on the general Infectious Diseases consultation service at UPMC Presbyterian.
Educational Interest
Dr. Martin’s educational interests include infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and clinical infectious diseases. She is very interested in teaching physicians and staff about ways to decrease the spread of hospital acquired infections and how to do quality improvement.
