Clinical Interest
Ataç Türkay, M.D., Ph.D. is a rheumatologist and a clinical assistant professor at the UPMC Arthritis and Autoimmunity Center. He is board certified in Rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Educational Interest
Dr. Türkay earned his M.D. in 1984 from Ankara University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey. After serving as a general practitioner for two years in an underserved area of Turkey, he started his training in Internal Medicine at Gazi University Medical School, Ankara. While in training, he won the prestigious NATO Science Scholarship to pursue post-graduate studies abroad. He came to the US in 1988 and started his studies at The University of Michigan, Department of Human Genetics. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Human Genetics, and he was involved in basic science as well as clinical research. While pursuing his post-graduate studies, Dr. Türkay completed his Internal Medicine training at Wayne State University-Detroit Medical Center. He did his Rheumatology training at the University of Michigan where he continued to serve as a lecturer. He accepted a position at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and moved to Pittsburgh in 2001. He worked as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Dr. Türkay moved to Heritage Valley Health System in 2004 to establish Heritage Valley Rheumatology. After serving the people of Beaver county for 17 years, Dr. Türkay has returned back to UPMC, bringing his expertise, experience and diverse back ground.
